How Bail Bond Costs Work
When a judge sets bail, you have two options: pay the full amount directly to the court (which you get back if you attend all hearings), or hire a bail bondsman who posts bail for you in exchange for a non-refundable premium.
In most states, this premium is 10% of the total bail. So if bail is set at $50,000, you'd pay a bondsman $5,000. Some states differ โ Nevada charges 15%, and Georgia and Louisiana charge 12%.
Many bondsmen offer payment plans, accept collateral (property, vehicles), and work with you on financing. The key is to call and ask โ most consultations are free.
